- The tour will beGIN with an informative walk through the dried mango production process. Here you’ll
experience first hand how the mangos you usually buy from the supermarkets are sorted, pealed, cut
into slices, layered and send to the industrial oven to dry.
You’ll have the opportunity to taste the fresh
mango as well as the end product. (The mangos are for sale in the Matumi farmstall) (In season only)
- Secondly we’ll jump into the vehicles and head towards the orchards, just shy of 500 meters away.
Here our guide will lecture you on the different varieties of citrus on the farm. You will learn a bit more about the farming practices implemented on the farm, equipment being used as well as Hoedspruit’s renown water irrigation scheme. (In season you will taste the different cultivars on the farm).
- Hippos, hippos and more hippos. The farm dam with more than 20 hippos habitants is next. This is
usually the main attraction of the day. Some interesting facts about hippos will be shared with you and
you’ll have the opportunity take beautiful pictures.
- We saved the best for last…On the banks of the Blyde river, with a view of the dramatic Drakensberg
mountains, you’ll experience a Primos gin tasting paired with snacks prepared by the renown Francine’s
venue and farmhouse situated on Chester citrus farm. Our mixologist will tell you a bit more about
Hoedspruit’s very own gin and the production process. We will also share some insights of the liquor
market in South Africa.
